A Simple Click Really Helps

What is the Apple iPhone camera lens actually made of? Check out this incredibly in depth look into what elements make up the Apple iPhone camera lens. Why does the iPhone lens scratch at a level 6 on Mohs Scale of Hardness? Ill be using the Diamond selector tool, an XRF machine AND an electron microscope.

Apple has been telling us that their camera lens is made from sapphire ever since the iPhone 5s. That is 5 different phones now that have this lens. (5s, SE, 6, 6s, and 7)

Finding the elemental analysis of the iPhone camera lens was quite the adventure. A little outside of the normal repair and durability testing that we do here on this channel. But still a fun project.

  1. Great video you really went all out to find out what that lens is made of, I love it, it seems Apple made that patent so that they could call the lens sapphire, that's very misleading.

  2. Dude… your channel is awesome!!!!
I'm an engineering student and this video satisfied my natural curiosity in every way. However, now I can't stop thinking of the correlation between the 10% difference in the purer sample of sapphire and the 3% difference of the camera lens.
