KODI Update and why everyone is saying you need it.
So, you love KODI and all that is has to offer, if you are a follower of my site and YouTube then you will understand in greater detail the amount of basically cool reliable content you can get. But and here is the big butt (no Kardashian pun intended) you will need to update to 17.1, now I am not saying that 16.1 wont work, as it will, but not to the full capability that 17.1 can, so the KODI update, here we go.
The majority of streaming sites are moving to HTTPS, and older versions of Kodi
do not offer HTTPS support. This basically means that if you want your favourite addon to scrape websites and find you the awesome content you are looking for then This means that at this point you really have no choice but to upgrade to Kodi 17.1. This isn’t just going to go away, you may as well do it now. Don’t be put off by this, its really quite simple.
The following advice is all from TVAddons website which can be found here
KODI Update Android Users: Those of you who are running older devices or cheap Android boxes might run into some trouble. Kodi 17.1 Krypton requires Android 5.0 or higher to run. If your device doesn’t support Android 5.0, you’ll need to buy a new Android TV box in order to continue to enjoy Kodi. (this one being the most pertinent to users)
KODI Update Apple TV 2 Users: Even though the last two versions of Kodi didn’t support the Apple TV 2, the device still seemed to work alright. This will no longer be the case moving forward, without HTTPS support it’ll be next to useless, it’s time to purchase a new Android TV box.
How to install Kodi 17 Krypton on an Android device
Kodi is available from the Google Play store, so head there on your Android device and install the app. Google Play will also automatically update Kodi for you on your device.
How to install Kodi 17 Krypton in Windows
If you’re running Kodi (or want to run Kodi) on a Windows machine, then head to the Kodi downloads page, and where it says ‘Current release: Kodi v17.0 “Krypton”’ click on the ‘Installer’ link, which downloads the .exe file that will take you through the process of installing Kodi 17.
If you already have a previous version of Kodi installed, then download the .exe and install Kodi 17 in the same location you installed the previous version of Kodi, and that will update your version to Krypton.
How to install Kodi 17 Krypton on a Mac
To install Kodi 17 Krypton on a Mac, or update your existing Kodi installation, go to the Kodi downloads page and select the ‘Installer’ link below the Apple logo.
This will download the .dmg file of Kodi 17. Double-clicking this file will mount it in Mac OS X or macOS Sierra as a disk image.
Open this image, then drag and drop the Kodi.app file from the disk image to your Applications folder.
Kodi makes this easy by bringing up a window that lets you do this. As with the Windows version of Kodi, if you want to update your existing Kodi installation to Kodi 17 Krypton, simply install the new version over the old one.
How to install Kodi 17 Krypton in Linux
Kodi 17 Krypton is included in Ubuntu repositories, which means it’s straightforward to install Kodi in Ubuntu or an Ubuntu-based distro.
Open the terminal (you can press Ctrl+Alt+T) and type in the following:
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install kodi
Kodi can also be installed on other distributions using third-party repositories, but these aren’t officially supported by Kodi, so you may not get the best experience.
How to install Kodi 17 Krypton on a Raspberry Pi
While you can download and install Kodi software in the default Raspbian operating system that comes with the Raspberry Pi, the latest version of Kodi is not available, which means you won’t be able to install Kodi 17 Krypton in Rasbian just yet.
For example, LibreELEC has released a beta version of its software that’s based on Kodi 17 Krypton. You’ll need to install the LibreELEC (Krypton) v7.95.2 onto an SD card, then insert it into the Raspberry Pi and launch the LibreELEC distro.
You can download a LibreELEC USB creator tool, which will do this for you, for Linux, macOS and Windows PC from the LibreELEC Krypton download web page. It’s worth repeating that at the time of writing this is a beta version, so there may be bugs and other issues.
